seeking provider for FTL in Mass

I'm working with a client who has a 38 y.o brother with ASD who still lives at home. Client's mom is aging and wants help to transition him out of the house and living independently. Ideally provider accepts Medicare but they're open to self-pay. Must be licensed in Mass. Thank you!

Hi! SPACE FTL is not an appropriate intervention in this case. This 38 year-old has ASD, and likely requires supports to live independently (which the mother likely provided). FTL (and SPACE) is not yet evidence based for ASD. Once studies are complete, I am certain there will be adjustments made for ASD, and a specific protocol developed. FTL operates under the premise of the formula: motivation x ability= action. Ability is presumed in axiety, and it is the motivation /avoidance that is targeted. In ASD, there are individual limitations with ability.

What this 38 year-old needs is resources for adult ASD supports (depending on level of disability, these supports may vary.) Getting in contact with state and community resources for ASD, and making appropriate referrals would be indicated.😁

Experience with SPACE?

Would any parents who have experienced SPACE be willing to share what their experience was like? I know every therapist is differnt, but would be so helpful to hear from anyone.

Demand Avoidance?

Wondering if people have encountered this in FTL adults and if it has modified how you've worked with the parents around this. Also, if anyone has recommendations on reading material or the research on demand avoidance, it would be great to hear!

Helping child with general anxiety when it’s hard to recognize the accommodation

Hi, we have successfully worked through removing the accommodation of not sleeping with our child and she has shown improvement in not being anxious at night. However, she has constant anxiety throughout the day that she doesn’t recognize where it’s coming from, it’s not a specific worry so it’s hard to find an accommodation to work on. Any tips on where to start and how to help child get over the ruminating feelings and sadness?

Thank you!

New Virtual SPACE group!

Good morning!

My name is Alyssa Hertz and I'm reaching out from Houston Anxiety & Wellness Center to share information about our upcoming SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) therapy group, which may benefit families you work with who have children struggling with anxiety.

SPACE is an evidence-based parent training program that helps children manage anxiety through parent-focused intervention. We find this approach particularly effective for students whose anxiety impacts school attendance, social participation, or academic performance, as it doesn't require the child's direct participation in therapy.

Our next 6-week, virtual group begins on April 2, 2025

Program Highlights:

  • Weekly, virtual sessions on Wednesdays April 2 - May 7, 2025 12:00-1:30 CT

ARFID training

I'm looking for ARFID-specific training, having already been trained in SPACE. Is there a formal training available - live or recorded is fine. I have a family I'm working with on other accommodations but ARFID is also an issue they're being treated for at a local hospital and I'd like to support them with SPACE if possible.
